Katie Zaferes became ITU World Champion on Saturday evening in the Olympic Capital Lausanne, sealing the greatest season of her career with a fifth WTS gold of the year. It all boiled down to another incredible battle with British duo Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor Brown, but it was Zaferes delivering yet another big finish, pulling away from Learmonth down the final 200 metres to drink in the magic of the moment that a hard season had built up to. Bermuda – For the second year in a row, Bermuda is proving to be the perfect race for getting first ever WTS victories. Last year it was a Norwegian, Casper Stornes, who surprised everyone by claiming the title, a honour that this time was for Frenchman Dorien Coninx, surprising all to claim his first ever World Triathlon Series, with a legend of the sport like Javier Gomez Noya claiming silver and the Norwegian Gustav Iden repeating the third place that he got 12 months ago. The 2018 ITU World Triathlon Series officially began on Friday, March 2 when elites Henri Schoeman (RSA) and Rachel Klamer (NED) collected gold at the 2018 ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi. Joining Schoeman on the men’s podium was Mario Mola (ESP) and Vincent Luis (FRA). Following the investigation opened by ITU and the IOC over the publication on some media outlets of allegations involving Henri Schoeman and an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) that would have occurred during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, all parties involved want to declare that the case was not considered to be any Anti-Doping rule violation.
