Lanzarote Ironman 2012 edges closer

The Ironman

The Ironman

The Lanzarote Ironman 2012 edges ever closer. Saturday the 19th May, 2012, will see the 21st ‘running’ of this event and after this last week’s heatwave, the competitors will be happy to hear that cooler weather is expected.

As of today; Thursday, and with 2 days to go, there is a cool breeze floating in the air, something which was non existent during the week.

If this coolness can be present on Saturday then the triathletes will have been ‘blessed by the gods’.

The numbers have been coming down to the swim course in the morning, either making their way across from Club La Santa or from local accommodation to come sample the swim route. The swim route is in a wonderful setting with the island of Fuerteventura in the yonder and not that they will have the time during the race to take in the splendour. However the spectators can marvel in the setting.

Hawaii may be the original, however Lanzarote has an iconic feeling to it, as this ‘sports island’ revels in the idea that the participants are going to fight and overcome everything the event has to throw at them.

The cycle course is brutal. There is only one word for it, brutal. 2551 meters of climbing

Once you climb off the bike it is 42k, a marathon along the coast of Puerto Del Carmen.

You will have been challenged and all that have been witness to your participation will revel in what you have achieved, no matter what your finishing time may be.

Tomorrow we shall provide feedback of the competition at the top end of the event and it is expected to be strong and lively.
